Connecting Tamariki and the Environment -

Mon 5th August – 11.00-12.00pm
Tiaki Early Learning Centre on the shores of Lake Rotorua at Hinemoa Point has received many accolades for their innovative approach to fostering environmental guardianship in pre-schoolers.
They are teaching the next generation from an early age to be leaders in projects to reduce waste and foster sustainable living practice. One of the centre’s over arching philosophies is to ‘Walk softly on the earth’ and their ‘Tangata Whenuatanga’ programme and para kore kaupapa provide opportunities for tamariki aged between two and six to lead by example in their role as Kaitiaki o Papatūānuku – guardians of the land.
Examples of how they do this include the ongoing restoration of a local wetland, growing and preparing their own kai and connecting with their local environment, its culture, people and history.
Come hear Head Teacher Katherine Maud share their inspirational and award-winning journey.
