Janita had owned and operated Mayfair Court Motel for five years when she applied for the INCUBATE programme.
“I saw details about the programme on social media and thought it looked interesting. I often felt isolated and lonely as a business owner and I found I was starved of being surrounded by likeminded individuals.
I thought that this could be a good way to learn some new things while connecting with other business owners in the district.
I have done some pretty amazing things in my life and this course ranks right up there. Every session I came to, I learnt one thing. And that one thing was often a treasure taking it back and implementing.
Doing INCUBATE made me raise my head above the nitty gritty and think about the future. The importance of looking ahead. I would get bogged down in the detail, cleaning rooms and things like that. Now I have employed a new staff member to help with some of those tasks, so I have time to focus on the bigger stuff that will push my business forward.
By far the best two hours I spent in my life on work related stuff was my one-on-one coaching. I now have the goal setting, the action plan and achievable bites to make everything feel not so overwhelming anymore.
My plan from here on in is to hire more staff, look at finance options to upgrade parts of the motel plus marketing, marketing, marketing.
Long term I am also looking at some big scary audacious goals with setting up a new type of accommodation that isn’t currently offered in Tokoroa.”
